Floor Huygen has been the company’s artistic director since 2005. Her style is radical, but pleasantly so; poetic, yet always looking to create a short circuit. The drama she creates is at the same time restrained as well as celebratory. Her multi-layered performances appeal to audiences across the generations.
True to Life Acting
For Theater Artemis, the essence of a good theatre play is good acting, and therefore, high-quality acting is at the core of our youth performances. The actors will translate the text to their own bodies so that the language becomes their own personal language. Acting must always be truthful, allow for identification, and be full of life. The performance is reinvented each night, so to speak, which results in powerful moments of intensity – that may occasionally fail as well. This is a risk we are not afraid of taking because we believe in the quality of our actors.
Voyage of Discovery
We allow ourselves the time to get immersed in a theme by creating multiple performances starting from the same idea. In doing so, we take a voyage of discovery into the theme we have chosen. This ensures a continuous development and keeps us moving. Each performance is an adventure to us.
Chemistry
For every performance, the actors and artists working at Theater Artemis often plunge to great depths together. The chemistry that is created in the process yields some powerful concoctions, based more on our amazement than on our actual understanding of how things should be done. Differing in size and shape, ranging from small-scale to full-scale, we perform them in our own theatre, or at venues across the Netherlands and Belgium, or at specific sites.
